“Strides, Thorns and Roses” (STAR) is a poetry chapbook of twenty-six poems written by
Arnee Akpan as well as other contributors including Tee, Michael, Ifiokobong, Cinta, and
Alogo. As we all know, human life is a box that contains different items and the human
as a whole is built of different elements.
These elements like friendship, family, love, etc. make up his or her growth as an individual. “Strides, Thorns and Roses” explores everything aforementioned and uses the art of poetry to express the different sides of human emotion and growth.
Although the poems written are based on the character and journey of Olamilekan Agbeleshe also known as
Laycon; a rapper/singer, winner of the Big Brother Nigeria 2020 and most importantly a growing human.
However, the poet seeks to portray Laycon in a light and hopes that every dreamer who reads through the
lines in this book views Laycon as a reflection of themselves and understands that time is the validity of life
and the essence of time is growth.
So, dear dreamer, relax, walk, refill and walk. Time will always lead you to the sun
and we go blow someday my brothers and sisters.
