Flowers And Fireworks

By Olabisi Abiodun Akinwale:

Butterflies- Day 6

Flowers & fireworks

there are no charts to love
just like there are no charts to light
yet seabirds will fill fractured hearts with lullabies
& the echoes of heaven’s harp,
yet your aura would come in a trembling baritone
& a calypso song to the silence in my lungs,
yet I’ll think of you & make nest of your gestures
& of the way you stretch my loneliness into spreadsheet of blues,
yet I’ll walk through memories that holds cologne
of your images & reimagine the origin of butterflies
& of the kind of healing that unbreaks a heart,
yet I’ll stroll a night street with flickers of grief
making excuses for the phantoms sneaking on my shadow
till your face would come beaming out of streetlights
reaching for the wreckages in my body.

& yes, there are no charts to love
just like there are no charts to light
yet the hand of your voice will bring an
end to every flame over my head with flowers & fireworks.
