FOR GOD SO LOVE THE WORLD

Lush green leaves,

Deep green stems,

Varying browns trunks,

Robust Ìrókò of the South,

Massive Baobab from the North,

Which of his blessing will man deny?

For God so love the world.

Brown skin sandy soil surface,

Great essence to make glass.

Wild black loamy soils,

Feeding bones and flesh with greens.

Laterite sharp sand for bricks,

Putting food in the layers mouths.

Which of his blessing will man deny?

For God so love the world.

Friendly, legless serpents of the lands,

Biting easy like no other chance.

Vengeful cow with soft horns,

Giving meat on the call.

Loyal dog of low repute,

Man’s loyal servant since Neolithic.

Sleepless and of small stature,

Your value is enormous to us.

For God so love the world.

Which of his blessing will man deny?

I am a vegan, I don’t eat meat,

So thankful there are fruits and vegies,

Give me shaki, ponmo, ogunfe and roundabout,

May the animal kingdom perish not please.

Give me roots, or something soft or just water,

Soothing balms to the throat of earth livers.

For God so love the world.

Which of his blessing will man deny?

Dedication: To God, the provider and Man, the consumer.

Glossary:

Ìrókò - An African tree common in Nigeria

Shaki, ponmo, ogunfe - Yorùbá names for some assorted meats.
