Ada Part One Ada looked at herself in the mirror and smiled. She looked beautiful and she knew it. She really didn’t mind her beauty so much, but today was different. She was sneaking out to see James. Her father would kill her, only if he ever found out, but of course, no one would tell. She felt like an adult at only 16 years. She would simply sneak out through her window and be back before he knew better. When James asked to meet her close to their school around 5 pm, she certainly was going to say yes, but pretended to think about it for a few seconds and then nodded her head in a way that said; ‘I would try my best to be there’ Of course, she would be there, she had had a crush on him for as long as she could remember. She was thrilled but didn’t show it. Immediately she got back from school, she loosened her hair and washed it squeaky clean. Her father was usually home early every Friday. He was the headmaster of the government primary school close to their house. Whenever Ada got home on Fridays, he would be sitting quietly in the chair on the veranda, legs crossed, reading the day’s newspapers. He made sure to read all the papers for the day, though they mostly reported the same news and she always wondered why he did that. She knew that nothing would tear him away from his reading, in fact, she was banking on that when she agreed to go out with James. She felt happier than she had been in a long time, but at the same time, her heart was hammering in her chest. She was scared of being caught by her father and at the same time, she was scared of the outcome of her meeting with James. She finished applying the lipgloss she borrowed from Chioma, thinking that she would rather die first before her father would see her wearing the lipgloss.
