Out of our sights,
Farther than our ears,
Longer than our steps,
And darker than our nights,
You're gone
Into the other side of life.

Mountains of books,
Plantations of pens,
Oceans of ink,
And plains of words
Have watched you sail
Into the other side of life.

Can you hear the mournful chorus?
Can you see the enlarging vacuum?
Can you feel the fiery fear?
The one that has swept through the corridors of Africa
Because its son is gone
Into the other side of life?

The aged have lost a pillar.
The youths have lost a rock.
The children have missed a foundation.
And the unborn shall be told of a leader...
The one who has traveled
Into the other side of life.

Look how the huts wither in the East.
Watch the mud weathering in the South.
The tents of the North are crumbling to the ground.
And the forest homes are breaking down in West and Central Africa.
They are all mourning the demise of their son who is gone
Into the other side of life.

But, we have your words
Singing in the unity of our hearts.
We watch your steps
Treading on the underdevelopment of our thoughts.
Even though you're gone into the other side of life,
We have concoctions of your life added to the hope of our future.

So when you've arrived at the gate of hereafter,
When your mind opens to the United Nations beyond this earth,
Do not forget the foreign policy of the people you left behind.
Share them amongst your statesmen
Since you're gone
Into the other side of life.

Tell Nkrumah that our leaders no longer seek first a united nation of Africa...
That division now forms the thread used to sew the garments of our policy makers.
Remind Kenyatta that, instead of the people to face Mount Kenya,
Our people now seek to bulldoze it.
Let them know this truth
Since you're gone into the other side of life.

Be sure to meet Mandela...
Let him understand that our peace which he fought for has become sour.
Tell Zik that intelligence and excellence no longer come from our brains in Africa,
Tell him that they both live in the pockets of only those
who can purchase them for their self-aggrandizement.
Tell them these things with utmost sincerity
Because you're gone
Into the other side of life.

If Shaka Zulu shall ask of the security of the people of Africa,
Tell him that his bows and arrows were stronger...
That the bombs and guns we have today are instruments of deceit
Used to eliminate the patriots of truth.
Tell him about the Nigerian Civil War
Because you're gone
Into the other side of life.

While we cannot mention them all,
Be sure to let them know the state of Africa.
And do not also forget
To say that we bid them rest in peace.
Rest in peace Kofi Annan
Because you're gone into the other side of life.
